A Journey of Passion and Growth

For nearly three decades, Sportsman’s Bar & Grill has served as a community hub in Somerset, offering delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a slice of the town’s rich history. Located at 217 Main Street, this beloved establishment is not only the oldest business in Somerset but also one with a story as rich as its menu.

Owned and operated by Missi and Ed since May 5, 1995, Sportsman’s began with one major goal in mind: independence and the chance to be self-employed. Since opening its doors, the business has evolved from a casual bar into a family-friendly destination offering a vibrant dining experience. On weekends, they even serve breakfast, making it a go-to spot any time of day.

The Fazekases credit much of their success to the people who have been part of their journey. “One of the most rewarding aspects of owning this business has been the wonderful people we’ve employed over the years and the families we’ve met. Watching employees and customers grow has truly been a joy.”

What Sets Sportsman’s Bar & Grill Apart
Step into Sportsman’s, and you’ll instantly feel steeped in history. The building, constructed in 1856, still features its original tin ceiling—highlighting the venue’s deep roots in Somerset’s story. Guests can also enjoy dining on their beautiful outdoor porch and patio, a stunning addition completed during the pandemic.

“It was a big achievement for us to add the porch and patio during COVID,” Missi shared. “Turning that challenging time into an opportunity to grow is something we’re truly proud of.”

A Heartfelt Partnership
Sportsman’s Bar & Grill has also benefited from a long-standing relationship with FNC Bank, which they’ve partnered with for nearly 27 years. Joe Green has been their go-to contact from the start. “Everyone at FNC has been incredibly supportive—it’s a family-friendly atmosphere, and we’re so grateful for everything they’ve done for us over the years,” they shared.

Overcoming Challenges
Like many small businesses, Sportsman’s has faced its share of challenges, with the pandemic being one of the toughest. Still, they persevered—working long hours, staying connected with customers via social media, and supporting their dedicated team. Their resilience and adaptability have helped Sportsman’s remain a cornerstone of the Somerset community for almost 30 years.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Missi offers simple but valuable advice to those looking to start their own business: persevere. Keep looking for ways to grow, set clear goals, and be prepared to put in long hours. Take pride in your work, and don’t forget to celebrate your achievements along the way.
